Euro Cup 2024

Germany boasts a rich history in European Championships, with thirteen participations – five as West Germany and eight as unified Germany. Hosting the upcoming Euro 2024, they set a record for the most appearances in the competition's history.

The German national team holds three European titles, clinching victories in Euro Cup 1972 (Belgium), Euro 1980 (Italy), and Euro Cup 1996 (England). They encountered rare finishes outside the top eight in the Euro Cup 2000, 2004, and 2020, showcasing their consistent prowess by reaching at least the semi-finals on nine occasions.

In Euro Cup 1972, West Germany secured the title with a commanding 3–0 victory over the Soviet Union in the final at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, with Gerd Muller and Herbert Wimmer contributing goals.

The 1980 UEFA European Football Championship, hosted in Italy, marked West Germany's second triumph, overcoming Belgium 2–1 in the final. This tournament, the sixth in UEFA's four-year cycle, featured eight teams and concluded with West Germany securing the title.

Euro Cup 1996 witnessed Germany's victory as a unified nation, clinching the title with a 2–1 win over the Czech Republic in the final, featuring the historic golden goal by Oliver Bierhoff during extra time. This marked Germany's first major title as a unified nation.

Qualifying for Euro 2024 as the host nation, Germany anticipates their 14th European Championship appearance. Under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann, expectations are high for the team to vie for championship glory once again.
