The FA Community Shield is English football’s traditional season curtain-raiser, played annually at Wembley Stadium. It features a showdown between the previous season’s Premier League champions and FA Cup winners. If the same team wins both, the league runners-up step in as the opponents. The match is officially recognised as a competitive super cup by both the Football Association and UEFA.

Organised by the FA, the Community Shield isn’t just about silverware—it’s also a force for good. Proceeds from ticket sales and match programmes go to the 124 clubs involved in the FA Cup from the first round onward, with funds then passed on to local charities and community projects. Additional revenue supports the FA’s national charity partners.

The fixture has a rich history, dating back to the 1908–09 season when it replaced the Sheriff of London Charity Shield.

The current title holders are Manchester City, who claimed the 2024 Shield by defeating Manchester United 7–6 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw.
