Mexico's national football team entered the FIFA World Cup arena in 1930, marking their inaugural appearance in the tournament's inaugural edition in Uruguay. Despite not securing a World Cup victory to date, Mexico has contributed significantly to the global football landscape with consistent participation and commendable performances across various tournaments. Among their standout moments include reaching the quarterfinals in 1970, a tournament hosted on home soil, and again in 1986 when Mexico hosted the FIFA World Cup for the second time. While they fell short in both instances, these achievements underline Mexico's capacity to compete at the highest level of international football.

Over the years, Mexico has produced exceptional talents who have left indelible marks on the sport. Figures like Hugo Sánchez, renowned for his goal-scoring prowess, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, known for his creativity and skill, and Javier Hernández, affectionately called Chicharito, have embodied Mexico's footballing spirit with their performances on the world stage. These players, among others, have played pivotal roles in Mexico's World Cup campaigns, showcasing the nation's footballing heritage to the world.

In terms of coaching, Mexico has been guided by notable figures who have left their imprint on the team's history. Ignacio Trelles, Bora Milutinović, and Miguel Herrera are just a few of the coaches who have led Mexico in various World Cup campaigns, navigating the team through challenging competitions with their tactical acumen and leadership.

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mexico finished third in Group C behind Argentina and Poland (due to goal difference), making it the first time since 1978 that Mexico got eliminated in the group stage (the 1982 and 1990 World Cup tournaments, in which Mexico did not participate, notwithstanding).
